Last week I was stuck on Christmas Perfection… or the lack thereof… or the search thereto (pretty sure that’s not a real word).
This week it’s Continuity. I like things and people and traditions you can count on.
Turns out, my continuity has been seriously messed with this year, but not totally done away with…
….. like these chubby-cheeked Santas. They show up every year. No matter what. No matter where.
Long ago and far away, I painted a gazillion of these guys and sold them to earn Christmas money. All sold but four. These four. And they became ceramic counterparts of these four…..
Love the antlers!
It’s amazing to me they survived – the santas, not the antlers. Snow, sleet, floods and a gross mouse infestation had no effect on them. Not even a 3,000 mile trek.
Here they are last year, sitting on my grandmother’s piano in my sunshine painted living room tied together with America’s colors.
And here they are this year sitting on an asian design coffee table, with purplely-pink walls as a backdrop next to a picture of their grandfather when he was a young whippersnapper in the Yukon.
Asian design and purplely-pink walls are not my thing, but for the time being they are reality. I’m actually more of a country, quilty, red-white-and-blue kind of gal. But it’s all ok.
The guys are here. They arrived with me in a box of nonnegotiables that needed to be exactly where I could find them.
Christmas is coming. It always does. Regardless of bold color schemes gone wrong or human beings struggling to become bold.
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2: 11
Continuity.
