Pressing Toward the Goal

Projects undone, problems unexpected, stuck on a road I’ve traveled too many times before….getting dangerously close to grumpy.

Take my one year bible for example….for Christmas of 2008 I bought my Dad a large-print, one year bible.  It looked so cool and I liked the idea of methodically reading thru the whole bible in one year, so I bought myself one as well.

We started reading on January 1st, 2009.  Dad finished on December 31st, 2009.  Today it is April 15, 2011 and I am all the way up to….August 12th.  So apparently, I am on the three year reading track for a one year bible.  It could turn into four if I don’t kick it up a notch.

It’s slow going in the Old Testament.  There is so much detail about who is related to who and building specifications and what to eat when and what type and color of fabric to use for this purpose or that…. it’s all so complicated.

And then there are the people….who make me feel crazy reading about them.  They are given all these amazing signs and blessings.  But they don’t see it!  They keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over and over again.  They got caught up in all the nonsense and minutia of life… they got discouraged and grumpy and………..grumpy…. and stuff.

OK, maybe there is a point to it …maybe even a little connection…maybe.  Maybe I should keep reading and stop grumbling.  Stop grumbling and…………

………..focus on the one thing that matters.

“Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do:

Forgetting what is behind and  straining toward what is ahead,

…. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward…..”  Philippians 3: 13, 14

Keepin’ his eye on the prize….thanks for the visual, little Isaac.
